Arizona's rodent problem isn't the brown rats you see in movies — it's roof rats and pack rats, both of which love citrus trees, palm fronds, attic spaces, and engine bays.
Roof rats are climbers. They run along power lines, drop into attics from overhanging trees, and chew through electrical wiring (a leading cause of house fires). Pack rats hoard everything — they'll nest in car engines, destroying wiring harnesses. Both species can squeeze through holes the size of a quarter and reproduce year-round in the Valley's mild climate.
